Grief and Survivors Programs

San Francisco Suicide Prevention aims to support not only those at risk for suicide, but those who have been affected by the loss of others.  All loss survivors are encouraged to reach out to our crisis line for support, and we offer some peer based in-person services specifically tailored to help those who are processing this very specific type of loss.

Grief  Support Groups:  We provide eight week peer led (not clinical) support groups for people who have lost a loved one to suicide. These groups offer a safe and non-judgmental space to share experiences, and listen to other survivors.

  • What is peer support? “Peer support is a system of giving and receiving help founded on key principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement of what is helpful. Peer support is not based on psychiatric models and diagnostic criteria. It is about understanding another’s situation empathically through the shared experience.” (Sherry Mead, 2001)

Drop in Support Group:  The  drop in group is for survivors that have completed the SFSP six or eight week group only and would like to stay connect with other survivors throughout the year.
