COVID-19 Announcement

A message to our community regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear Community,

Along with many of you, San Francisco Suicide Prevention has been closely monitoring the situation around COVID-19 or Coronavirus. During chaotic and overwhelming times, our lines act as a critical intervention for many folks who need emotional support. Therefore, we have and will continue to operate as an “essential activity” as defined by the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

We would not be able to continue to answer our lines, if not for the dedication of our volunteers and staff. Their commitment to this organization has saved lives and uplifted individuals countless times. It is pertinent to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers, so to encourage social distancing we immediately made the following changes:

  • We’ve canceled all large gatherings, including our Laughs for Life fundraising gala
  • We developed an internal protocol in response to addressing concerns over COVID-19, which includes significantly reducing the number of people in the call room at one time
  • All educational trainings and outreach events have been cancelled until further notice
  • Our Grief Group meetings are now remote
  • Volunteer recruitment and interviews are now remote
  • Our volunteers and staff who have health or commute concerns are respectively sheltering in place

We send heartfelt thanks to corporations who have donated, helped and are supporting our “essential services” during this crisis!
