Survivors of Suicide Support Groups

Grief  Support Groups:  San Francisco Suicide Prevention provides eight-week peer led support groups for people who have lost a loved one to suicide. These groups offer a safe and non-judgmental space to share experiences, and listen to other survivors.

  • What is peer support? “Peer support is a system of giving and receiving help founded on key principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement of what is helpful. Peer support is not based on psychiatric models and diagnostic criteria. It is about understanding another’s situation empathically through the shared experience.” (Sherry Mead, 2001)

Drop in Support Group:  The  drop in group is for survivors that have completed the SFSP six or eight week group only and would like to stay connect with other survivors throughout the year.

Grief support groups take place periodically on Monday evenings from 6:00pm – 7:30pm in our downtown San Francisco office.  All participants are asked to meet with our Grief Coordinator in advance to discuss the loss and whether the support group would be helpful.
