Someone from their organization came out to our office and gave a class about how to prevent suicide. It turns out you can learn suicide prevention just like you can learn CPR. More people should know this.

As much as I want to put in some time helping people directly, I’m just too busy. So I make a donation once in awhile. I feel a lot of the same thrill that the volunteers do, I think — that I have helped to save a life somehow.

As a volunteer I’ve been able to gain skills and strengths I never knew I could have. And I’ve used them in the most life-changing ways. The whole experience has made me feel strong and important.

San Francisco Suicide Prevention (SFSP) is open 24 hours a day because every minute counts. Our programs help people who are having suicide thoughts because they are overwhelmed by pain.

“Suicide is about emotional pain. Pain can be managed and relieved. That’s what we do here.”
